Introduction To Mehndi:

Mehndi has been associated mainly with a woman’s emotions, feelings  and hopes. Sometimes  as the colour of the mehndi darkens gradually, her deep hidden dreams also intensify .

It is believed that mehndi brings good fortune and auspiciousness to the family. It symbolizes good luck and prosperity. Today even the international tourists succumb to the temptation of henna.

Many foreign females can be seen sitting patiently to have that perfect motif of henna on their palms.

It has an enchanting fragrance. Weddings , childbirth and festivals of Eid, Teej, Gangaur, Karva Chauth, Raksha Bandhan and other happy occasions are marked with henna applications.

Mehndi is used for decorating hands and feet ,specially of brides, for grey coverage of hair and also as a cool hair conditioner.

There are different styles of mehndi  .Based on their place of origin, mehndi designs can be classified into the Middle Eastern Style, the North African Style ,the Indian and Pakistani Styles and the Indonesian and Southern Asian styles, which are a mix of Middle Eastern and Indian designs.

Its amazing  how there can be infinite number of mehndi  designs, each with a distinct pattern showcasing different  people’s visions  and  way of life.

Mehndi is a form of art that needs not only talent and skill but also a passion for converting feelings and thoughts into fine lines of designs. These days it is also used as an alternative for tattoos and doing away with pain of poking of needles for their inscription!
