Different colours of  Roses stand for different emotions and moods such as Love,Innocence, Purity, Secrecy, Reverence, Worthiness,Passion, Respect, Courage,Happiness, Romance, Friendship, Caring, Joy, Admiration, Sweetness,Gratitude, Appreciation, Sincerity, Modesty,Desire, Enthusiasm, Pride,New Beginnings,etc.

Mehndi designs have  been inspired by the charm of rose and its use as a symbol of passion. Thus, emerged the use of rose as a mehndi design.

 The Rose mehndi style is all about floral patterns , but only of different types of  roses.Of course,other patterns like leaves, vines,etc can also be used.

It is all about being creative to be able to use only roses in a mehndi design and make it look attractive.When applied aesthetically on hands and feet,rose mehndi is a pleasurable site.

Rose mehndi is gaining prominence as a tattoo design. Its a hot favourite among urban crowd, who can be seen inscribing rose mehndi as a body art.

For nail paint mehndi,  dark maroon nail paint has to be dried overnight, by keeping it open under the  fan . A thick  paste is made and then poured into a cone ( just like a mehndi cone).

Nail paint mehndi is also popular among youngsters, working women and fashion-conscious ladies, who are occupied with their busy lives and hectic schedules, as it does not need hours to dry.

It is a temporary mehndi and unlike henna mehndi, its colour does not remain for days.

 Its becoming popular in Bollywood as well. Actress ‘Kajol’ had applied nail paint as mehndi for a song sequence in the movie ‘My Name Is Khan’, so that she could easily wash it off after shooting.

Nail paint mehndi looks like original mehndi after it dries and gets colour.

It is an Instant mehndi for Modern women !!!

Applying mehndi or henna on different occasions like weddings and eid celebration is a part of South Asian culture. There are several methods of applying henna. Some people use pointed things and apply henna by dipping it in the paste. Some people use henna tubes but the most popular and best method of applying mehndi is by using henna cones. Henna cones are easier and convenient to use and they are also less messy so they are preferred most of the times.

Henna/Mehndi cones are easily available in the market but it’s less expensive and a lot easier to make them at home.

One can easily make henna cones by using a cello sheet (it should be thick so it retains its shape after you put henna paste in it), a plum bob a spoon (or something with the help of which you can easily pour mehndi into the cone); scotch tape and a pair of scissors.

Cut the cello sheet in rectangular shape. Start folding it in the shape of cone from one corner. Slowly fold it in the shape of a cone, leaving one side open and other completely closed (a funnel shape).

Another easy way of making a funnel shape is to place a plum bob on the cello sheet. Roll the paper over it in a round shape and a conic shape with a perfect tip will be ready within seconds. Put a piece of scotch tape so it won’t move, or slip from its place.

Once you have made the cone, now you can start pouring henna into it with spoon or anything that you are using.

Now gradually fold the cone toward its closed end. When you reach the point where the henna paste starts, put a small piece of scotch tape on it so it will permanently stay there and will not move.

This is your required henna cone. You have to cut the end before using it so you can apply it or you can also pierce a hole by using a pin or needle.

Your henna cone is now ready. It won’t take much time and is very economical!

Mehndi has broken free of the traditional wedding, Teej or Karva Chauth days and is being applied for a Valentine’s Day bash, a formal party or even an evening at a disco. In its new avatar, mehndi has been elevated to the status of body art and a fashion accessory for the fashion-conscious youngsters

In recent popular culture, mehndi has enjoyed a renewal. Western musicians and Hollywood personalities have adopted  mehndi as a temporary, pain-free body ornamentation alternative to tattooing, which is now the hottest new trend among women and men. As the trend grows in popularity, so grows the list of personalities that have been seen sporting mehndi patterns. Actress Demi Moore was among the first celebrities to be seen wearing mehndi. From Madonna and Naomi Campbell to Drew Barrymore the list of famous names smitten with mehndi magic is ever increasing.

The art of decorating hands and feet with henna has been in vogue for the past 5,000 years and even though the designs fade the art has withstood the impact of change.

Now it is not just hands and feet that are adorned, but also arms , neck, back and navel.

Also in vogue is shaded mehndi which plays with contrasts of black, red and maroon. This has not only caught the fancy of several brides who prefer it for the D-day, but is also a favourite with party lovers. The black coloured outlining is done with a chemical dye and later on the design is filled up with regular henna. Addition of clove oil to the dark shade reduces the chance of allergy to a great extent in this form.

Glitter mehndi is another variation quite popular with young generation these days. In this, the traditional designs are highlighted with the use of gold, silver or copper coloured glitters which give a shimmering effect. This goes very well with formal dresses.

Tiny crystal granules are also used to embellish henna designs giving a rich effect.

Mehndi tattoos are infact quite popular among college-going girls. Sanjana, a first year student at a local college, and her friends had mehndi tattoos on back and arms for a hostel party. These are trendy and something different, says Sanjana and adds that these go well with western outfits. Sneha, however prefers to experiment with new styles for that different look.‘‘At a wedding I would like to wear a different style design from the bride’’,she says. Earlier there were no options but things have changed in the past 2-3 years!
